Where is 150
Mile House?
- During
the Cariboo Gold Rush of 1858, in the Interior Plateau of
British Columbia, road houses were set approximately 10
Miles apart on the 250 mile journey from the staging post
of Lilloett, on the Fraser River, to the gold fields in
Barkerville. The road houses were conveniently named for
their location along the length of the road. The names
stuck. One thing is for sure: you always know exactly
where you are. It wreaks havoc with the code in some java
scripts, though, where clever programmers code in error
messages if you type in numbers in a text field! So, just
to be perfectly clear: 150 Mile House is between 140 Mile
House and Miocene, or between Lac La Hache and Willliams
Lake, or halfway between Kamloops and Prince George, or
6.5 hours northeast of Vancouver.
